LAST WEEK AT KIWANIS
    Charles W. “Chuck” Ross,
a trial attorney and President of the Tampa Bay Blues Foundation, along with Elliott Rakofsky, Director of Community Relations for P.A.R.C. presented a very interesting program on the upcoming Blues Fest which will be held at the Vinoy Waterfront Park on May 5,6, and 7.  They were introduced by our Kiwanian-of-the-day Bob Piplitz.  Mr. Ross thanked the club for its help in last year’s Blues Fest and hopes that this begins to be a long-term relationship.  The real exciting news was that Signature Bank has signed on as the title sponsor for this year’s show.

This year will present a spectacular three days of blues music with many nationally known artists.  Among the performers are Johnny Lang, Taj Mahal, Johnny Winter, John Lee Hooker, Jr., Robben Ford, and Mavis Staples among many others.  Sixteen different bands will be performing.  Advance ticket sales indicate that this will be the biggest attendance to see the event.  The festival is truly a travel destination as 30% of the ticket sales originate from patrons living outside of the State of Florida.  It takes over 200 volunteers plus the paid staff to stage and produce the festival.  The prime recipient of proceeds from the event is P.A.R.C. who does great fork for retarded children and the festival is honored to have had the past twelve years relationship with P.A.R.C.

Elliott Rakofsky then proceeded to tell about P.A.R.C., its programs and services.  The organization began helping retarded children in 1953 and has grown to the point where today they have twenty-six different programs and an annual budget of over $13 Million.  A lively question and answer session followed the presentations.  Many thanks to Bob for again bringing this most interesting program that helps retarded children to our collective attention.

VISITORS AND GUESTS
We had only one guest in attendance last week.  It was Lani McKinnon who was a guest of David Feaster.  Welcome, and please visit with us again.

DANE MARSHLACK GIVES THREE MINUTE SPEECH

After securing the required fifty member signatures on his Kiwanis Apron, Dane presented his fine-free three minute speech about who he is, what he does and where he’s going.  Dale is a member of a very small breed as he was born and raised in Florida and is a true native Floridian.  He is in the real estate business and cut his teeth with a firm that bought, rehabilitated and sold houses.  After a few years with HomeVestors, Dane started his own business which he appropriately called Rescue Real Estate which is modeled after the firm in which he learned the business.  After meeting Bill Allard, he has now added to his business by becoming involved in marketing commercial properties as well.  He thanked Bill for bringing him into Kiwanis and is looking forward to his membership in our club.  Let’s all be sure to meet and greet Dane and be sure that he gets a committee assignment.
