This Week’s Program:
Kiwanis Easter Program with Pastor Tim Whipple
Pastor Whipple, who
will lead our Easter program today, will be introduced by our
Kiwanian-of-the-Day J.C. Russell. Tim Whipple has
been in ministry for 22 years, most of which has been in Student
Ministry. He has had the opportunity to lead thousands of students in
camps and conferences all over the Southeast.
He earned his undergraduate degree in
management from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and his
master’s degree in Christian education from the Southern Baptist
Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
Tim is an excellent communicator, and loves any opportunity to bring the
truth of Scripture into our everyday lives in a way that's motivating,
relevant and easy to apply. Tim was born right here in St. Petersburg
and is passionate about reaching out to this community.
Tim lives in the Pinellas Point area of
St. Petersburg with his wife, Donna, and their two children, Brennan and
Bailee. Let’s give our speaker a very warm Kiwanis welcome!
Last Week’s Program Tim Ramsberger, St. Petersburg Grand Prix
Timothy T. Ramsberger,
Vice President Andretti Green Promotions
Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg was introduced by Dave Abbey.
Tim Ramsberger introduced in turn Tony Fabrizio, the racing writer for
the Tampa Tribune who got recognition for one of the Top 10 game stories
last year for his coverage of the Indy 500.
Tim began by saying that it’s great to be a
recovering lawyer and work on the Grand Prix. St. Petersburg, he told
us, was the first city to have the Indy car and champ car competitions
back to back. He characterized the Grand Prix as “the fastest spring
break party in the world.” Sponsors and drivers love to come here, Tim
said, and the American Le Mans Series has “fallen in love with the
streets of St.Petersburg, This year, the Grand Prix has partnered with
the SunCoasters and a spectacle is in store. Michael Andretti will be
the Grand Marshall of the Festival of States parade and our own Louis
Murphy will give the invocation for the race. Gym Class Heroes will
be the band playing the concert on Sunday and ABC will provide coverage
during the American Le Mans race at 1:30 Sunday and the Indy Pro Series
race that will take place Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Tony
Fabrizio from the Times said that from his more objective viewpoint, he
thinks the race is an exciting, special event and community builder. We
learned that Paul Newman, David Letterman and Patrick Dempsey will be
present as well. When asked to contrast what St. Pete has become and
Long Beach has been, Ramsberger said that St. Pete has offered up more
entertainment, we’re more picturesque and we have surpassed Long Beach
in four or five categories.
Ramsberger told us that France is sending
Peugot over to race against Audi, who won here last year. If you have
just one day to come, said Ramsberger, come Saturday for the American
LeMans Series race.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
For Easter
Almighty Eternal and
Ever-blessed God, as we come into your presence, grant that as we praise
you this day, we might see Jesus and believe, that we may celebrate the
true meaning of the Resurrection. May his presence among us lead to the
vision of unlimited truth and unfold the beauty of your love. We ask
this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen
At Purim
Blessed are You, Lord
our God, King of the Universe Who has sanctified us with his
commandments and commanded us to read the Megillah (the scroll of
Esther).
Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the Universe Who created miracles
for our forefathers in those days in this time.
Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the Universe Who has sustained us
and preserved us and enabled us to reach this moment.
