Today’s Program: News Anchor and Inventor Jen Holloway
For
the morning news without the chitchat, Bay area viewers turn to Bay News
9's Your Morning News. Each Monday through Friday from 5-9 a.m., anchor
Jen Holloway gives you a look at the stories making news around the Bay
area and beyond.
Jen's
broadcast career began in her native Georgia, at WTLK-TV in Atlanta,
where she was host of that city's only live weeknight entertainment
program. After that, Jen worked at Houston's KPRC-TV before coming to
Tampa Bay.
One of
the Bay News 9 "originals," Jen reported on transportation issues around
the Bay area when the news channel launched in 1997. In 1999, Jen made
the move to the weekend anchor desk. She took on her current duties as
weekday anchor of Your Morning News in 2000.
In
addition to helping you start your day with the news you're looking for,
Jen also helps you get your weekend in high gear with her Extra on the
Town reports. She gives you a complete rundown of all the great things
to see and do in the Bay area every Friday at :53 past the hour,
beginning at 5 a.m.
A
graduate of Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, Jen holds a bachelor's
degree in journalism. She is an active volunteer and fundraiser for
several community organizations in the Bay area, including the American
Cancer Society, the Red Cross, the Leukemia Society and Junior
Achievement.
When
she gets a break from television news, you'll more than likely find Jen
on one of the Bay area's many golf courses or spending time with her
family in the mountains of north Georgia.
Last Week at Kiwanis
Kiwanian of the day
Steve Cunningham introduced Becky Nielsen, Project Manager for The Trust
for Public Land (TPL). The TPL has four offices in Florida, one located
in St. Petersburg.
In 2005, TPL brokered
a deal with the CSX Railroad to expand the Pinellas Trail to St.
Petersburg’s downtown. Currently, TPL is working with Pinellas
County to achieve more access to the water. Later this month, twelve
(12) acres are to be purchased north of Dunedin to run the Pinellas
Trail to St. Joseph Sound. Additionally, that will allow for canoeing &
kayaking in a secluded area. Also, a deal is in the works to purchase
land for Gulf access at Indian Shores.
TPL receives the
majority of their funding through the public sector and their stated
goal is to get more of Florida’s private land into the public’s hands.
Two of their most successful projects have been the Ding Darling
Preserve on Sanibel Island and Cypress Gardens in Central Florida.
