Today’s Program:  St. Pete High School Ensemble Choir   David Lawhead, Director

I have been at St. Pete High for four years as the Choral Director.  I also teach IB
Music, AP Music Theory, and Keyboard.  I have taught in Pinellas County for twenty-one years and have lived in Pinellas County for twenty-six years.  This is the second year for the rebirth of the Pitchforks at St. Pete High.  The Pitchforks were started by Dick Kadel, who was choral director during the late 60’s. They sang in St. Pete throughout the 60’s, 70’s and most of the 80’s.  After about 20 years of silence, the Pitchforks were reintroduced last year in the fall.

St. Pete High Choral Department had their Winter Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 16th.  They keep a very busy schedule with a trip that was to Epcot on the 20th of December for the Candlelight Processional, and a trip to New York City this April.

Last Week at Kiwanis

Kiwanian of the Day, Mitch Cochran, introduced Kim Goodard, for a repeat visit to our club. Kim, it was pointed out, has been a guest speaker more times than anyone. And for good reason! She appeared to discuss proper protocol, an issue that is constantly in demand, but sometimes is neglected in today’s world.

Kim opined that with recently elected politicians, we should support them as our new leaders. She also expressed it is important to maintain human and spiritual values on a daily basis. One example of that is to not be so quick in initial judgment of your fellow man. She stressed that everyone has value, and that one should open their mind and their heart to all individuals. Especially during this time of year, she advised that family is important and that family members make you feel complete and whole.

At this point, she proposed a toast in memory of Skip Carr, to honor a man she worked with and respected. Speaking of respect, she summed up her presentation by telling us to be thankful for what life delivers and gives to one and all.

Kim, thank you, I am sure Mitch will call you again when the club needs a protocol adjustment…. sooner than later for sure.

Protocol pointers from Kim:

1.      Do not use nicknames for people upon first meeting them.

2.      Call people by their last name until directed to do otherwise.

3.      Any woman over 18 is to be referred to as Ms., under 18, Miss.

4.      When introduced at a meeting, stand up and be seen.

5.      When introducing new people make sure all names are vocalized, including your own.

6.      It is ok to use children as common ground when meeting people.

7.      Turn off cell phones during meetings or if an urgent call is expected, tell all those you are meeting that you are expecting a call.

Three Minute Speech

Dan Nardozzi delivered his three-minute speech on December 16. Dan, a St. Petersburg native, graduated from St. Petersburg Catholic. Married to Patty, Dan’s three children include a son who graduated from college in New Hampshire, a daughter who graduated from FSU, and the youngest son who is currently at St. Petersburg College. You may find Dan and his wife as volunteers at the North Shore swimming pool. A financial advisor for twenty-four years, he recently joined BB&T Bank.

Following Dan, Damian Gerke’s three-minute speech revealed to us he is an Arkansas Razorback graduate. Escaping from there, he landed in the promised land of St. Petersburg in 2001. Married twenty years to Cheryl, his children include an artist, a band member, and a writer. Damian was a minister for fifteen years and prior to that worked in the aerospace industry. Currently, he is a career coach, and his company is called Vantage Coaching.

House of Praise Blessings

Dr. Mentha Thomas, Pastor of House of Praise Blessings, received one hundred gifts for foster children from the membership today. She presented our club with a plaque for our help with this project.
