Kovo 4 – 8 dienomis, Floridoje (JAV) vyko kasmetinis Florida Lithuania Open golfo turnyras. Lietuvos garbės konsulo Floridoje Algimanto A. Last Week at Kiwanis
Kiwanian of the Day, Scott Boyle, introduced June Liggins, special volunteer for the Tampa Bay SPCA, located at 9099 – 130th Avenue North in Largo.
June enlightened us in the diversity of services provided by the SPCA including humane education, spay-neuter assistance, emergency ambulance, adoptions, and cruelty investigation. With a $3.4 million, the SPCA is financially stretched, as 14,000 – 17,000 animals are taken to their facility each year.
Amazingly, over 50% of the animals are adopted into the community. Often an injured or abused animal is rehabilitated and if physically fit, then adoption is permitted.
The Sheriff trains two humane officers working for the SPCA to intervene for the Sheriff in abuse situations. Where there is animal abuse, often human abuse is evident, too.
The SPCA also manages the care of farm animals and exotics. You may see these animals on guided tours, June said.
Thanks, June, for the informative message about something near and dear to us – the care of pets.
