What’s Happening
Get Well Soon
So Hal Wells retires and then he gets sick. That’s not fair! Wish Hal a speedy recovery. A card went around the table for Kiwanis signatures.

Get Well Two
Nancy Pate-Nelson, Tom’s wife, has been diagnosed with CLL (chronic lymphocytic cancer). She is going through chemical therapy with a bone marrow transplant scheduled later this year.

Get Well Three
Rusty Lampe recently had a pacemaker inserted. Complications arose and he looks forward to returning home as “bouncing” between the hospital and the physical therapy in the nursing home is not fun.

Viva Las Vegas
Tom Nelson gave a report on the International Convention in Las Vegas. Watch for details in next week’s bulletin. Also representing the club were Bob Piplitz, Markus Mittermayr, Charles Stuart, and Harry Eisnaugle.

Last Week at Kiwanis
Kiwanian of the Day, Cathy Swanson, introduced Cynthia Luke, Executive Director of the Children’s Dream Fund of St. Petersburg with offices in St. Petersburg and Tampa with a regional focus from Gainesville to Naples to Winter Haven.

The following is from The Children’s Dream Fund website:  “The Children's Dream Fund was founded in 1981 with the single purpose of fulfilling dreams for children ages 3-18 that have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.

Referrals are received from several hospitals on Florida's west coast. Dreams vary greatly - from trips to Disney World, meetings with celebrities, computers, play sets, cruises and shopping sprees. Every child deserves hope and a dream!

The true impact of a child's dream cannot be measured in dollars and cents. Our desire is to grant every eligible child's dream. There are many children in our community with life-threatening illnesses, and the Children's Dream Fund needs your help to reach them.”

The Children’s Dream Fund has seventeen members on their Board of Directors who are the stewards for donations received. Additionally, many of the dreams for the children are donated by the respective organizations that make the dreams possible.

Recently the Dream Fund hosted “Rays on the Runway” as fifteen Tampa Bay Rays players and two coaches participated as models for a fund-raising auction.

We thank you Cynthia for visiting our club and spreading the word to us about the dreams that come true for children of Florida who have suffered the misfortune of terminal illness.
