Why I joined Kiwanis of St. Petersburg
I've never belonged to a service club and never really considered joining one until I happened upon the Kiwanis Club of St Petersburg. My neighbor, Rob Fazio, told me about this wonderful scholarship program available to the children of St. Petersburg, Take Stock in Children. As we chatted about the program, he explained how his Kiwanis Club of St Petersburg, supported the scholarships with fund raising and scholarship selection. I was intrigued, what kind of club was this? As I learned more about the Kiwanis Organization, I was drawn to their focus on helping children, my passion as well. Still, I was a bit hesitant to make the commitment to a service club.
I wanted to make sure that the members of the club were people I'd enjoy spending time while helping the children, they are! I wanted to make sure that the members of the club were truly committed to helping the children that come from less fortunate circumstances, they are! I wanted to make sure that there was a sense of belonging in a club that believed they could do more as a group than as an individual, they do!
I took a chance and joined my first service club and I'm excited and proud to now be a member of the Kiwanis Club of St Petersburg. I felt welcome from my first day and being a member has been one positive experience after another. It’s inspiring to be around other members that dedicate their time and resources so diligently to help the children. And all brought to me weekly at our informative speaker luncheons spiced up with lots of good laughter.
